Santo Antao
Trip to Ponta do Sol was from Mindelo on fast ferry which took 40 minutes from the Island of Sao Vicente to Island of Santo Antao. Then after docking in Porto Novo and collecting your overnight bag, there is a guy with a sign "Sister Cummings" waving it among the other signs for you to find the right vehicle to travel to where the Sisters apartment was in Ponta do Sol a two hour winding road near the coast line areas where the waters were lapping the shores. I do believe you could surf on those waves if you didn't come in contact with the rocks on the shorelines. We had nice smooth road almost all the way. First encounter to meet--the goats & few cows crossing the road. " Get along doggies"--Following cliffs and with numerous tunnels hewn out of the rock, you will reach Vila da Pombas (Paul) in 20 minutes. A vast ribeira home to thousands of people and their agriculture--sugarcane, breadfruit and bananas. Getting to Ponta do Sol is at the end of the road. A gracious town, built on a breezy peninsula.

Mindelo Sites
Sao Vicente
This rock in the ocean was of little use to anyone before the end of the 18th century. After its discovery on 22 January 1462, and the traditional release of goats to prey on its delicate vegetation, humans forgot about it, except to land there occasionally with dogs. Sao Vicente has one superlative natural resource. The island's harbour is a sweeping curve formed by a crater rim over whose northern side the sea has breached.

Mindelo, the capital, has an air of importance about it these days and is growing wealthier. Has European flavor.
