Beach of Tarrafal
A cobalt sea, string of litttle coves and a flat land under the forbidding mountains are what make Tarrafal. The beach sports, fishing, sunbathers is great for soft white sand, and artists displaying their wares.
Elder and Sister Broderick from Mindelo are down here meeting town officials for one of their welfare projects. Such a great couple from Danville, California, not too far from where Mike and Carrie live. He is retired from Chervon.
Tarrafal
The 80km trip from Praia along the central road takes two hours and allugueresleave all day. I left at 8:00 AM and switched in Assomada and picked up women with their market produce to take up the road. It had started raining, and umbrellas came out on the streets. I could have worn a sweater!
Buildings of Assomada
Elder Wirkus and myself at the start of Market Square in Assomada--Elder Hutber is taking our picture
Assomada
The drive from Praia to Assomada is 1 1/2 hours of spectacular views when jagged clifftops come into view.
An attractive town at the heart of Santiago famous for its museum and market. The market of Assomada is one of the largest on the island, crammed with agricultural products and crafts. It is the central collection and distribution point for products produced throughout the surrounding countryside. ( You can see some of the wares in next story of Tarrafal)

Sal
Esargos draws its unlikely name from the wild, yellow-flowered, red berried asparagus bushes that are said to grow on sandy parts of the island |
The arrival at Sal on an international airport descent indicates rocky planes, on the coast line, you see fancy resorts, and in the southern island is tourist city of Santa Maria with 11 miles of pure white sands, and crystal clear aquablue waters.
